Welcome to Volunteer Connections

A Program of the Human Services Council Serving Clark County
Mission Statement:
"To connect the wisdom, experience, and talents of volunteers with opportunities to enrich the quality of life for themselves and their communities."

Volunteer Connections:
a new name for established programs"Volunteer Connections" reflects the integration of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program with the Volunteer Center. Our programs integrated in July of 2005.

Volunteer Connections recruits and interviews interested volunteers matching their skills, talents, interests, and time availability to appropriate volunteer assignments. We have agreements with over 250 non-profit organizations, hospitals, nursing homes and government agencies where volunteers can assist. Volunteer Connections also works with organizations to identify meaningful volunteer opportunities and develop innovative assignments that meet specific community needs. Volunteer Connections serves Clark County and the cities within its boundaries.

Volunteer Connections is an affiliate of The Points of Light Foundation and Volunteer Center National Network. our web-based data bank of volunteer opportunities, www.volunteerwashington.org, is linked to 1800volunteer.org and VolunteersinDisaster.org. We partner with other Volunteer Centers and RSVP programs in the state, with emergency responders, schools, congregations and civic organizations as well as volunteer resource managers to make Clark County a safer, healthier place to live, learn and grow.

All volunteers 55+ are automatically registered as Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteers. Besides experiencing the genuine joys of volunteer work, additional benefits are available through RSVP such as insurance coverage, an invitation to the Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, and free subscription to our monthly newsletter located in the Senior Messenger Newspaper.

In 2006 our volunteers donated over 128,300 hours saving Clark County organizations $2.3 million dollars.

Volunteers provide a variety of services including, but not limited to:

  • Guides/docents at historical site and museums
  • Delivering meals to homebound elderly
  • Organizing/assisting at special events
  • Tutoring students and assisting educators
  • Serving on advisory councils and boards
  • Assisting in homeless shelters and food banks
  • Helping with income tax and health insurance
  • Providing medical transportation for elderly
  • Assisting in hospitals and nursing homes
