Medicare & Medicaid Information

Medicare is national health insurance covering people who are 65 and older and some younger disabled people. People with very limited incomes and resources may qualify for assistance in paying related Medicare costs.

Medicaid is a federal-state health insurance program for low-income people. It covers children, the aged, blind, disabled, and other people who are eligible to receive federally assisted income maintenance payments. People who are covered by Medicare may also be eligible for Medicaid. Medicaid covers long term care for a greater length of time than Medicare does, and offers wider services.

In addition to providing services to individuals not on Medicaid, the Southwest Washington Agency on Aging also provides in-home long-term care case management to Washington COPES and MPC clients residing in our service area. COPES and MPC are the state’s in-home personal care Medicaid programs. In order to receive these services, you must first be found Medicaid eligible by Home and Community Services, a division of DSHS (Washington Department of Social & Health Services).

Find the address and phone number for the Home and Community Services office closest to you.
